Former Pakistan captain and one of the great white-ball spinner Shahid Afridi shocked everyone on Tuesday evening when he announced his decision to cut short his stint with the Galle Gladiators in the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League.
Afridi had taken to his official Twitter account to reveal that he will be heading back home to attend to a personal emergency and will rejoin the team once the issue gets addressed.
”Unfortunately, I have a personal emergency to attend to back home. I will return to join back my team at LPL immediately after the situation is handled. All the best.,” Shahid Afridi wrote.
However, Shahid Afridi had not mentioned the nature of ‘personal emergency’ that has forced him to leave the tournament midway.
That said, the reason behind the mercurial all-rounder’s departure has now been revealed.
Should Shahid Afridi return to join his side Galle Gladiators, he will have to undergo just three-day isolation following a Covid-PCR test.
Afridi had been diagnosed with the virus earlier this year and recent tests showed that he has antibodies in his system to fight the deadly contagion.
Meanwhile, the former Pakistan captain’s Galle Gladiators are yet to win a single game in their 2020 LPL campaign. The side has lost each of their three encounters and in the last game that Shahid Afridi featured, he was involved in a heated face-off with Kandy Tuskers bowler Naveen-Ul-Haq following his altercation with Afridi’s teammate Mohammad Amir.
